NEW! PROFESSIONAL TEETH WHITENING

Queens Park Clinic are proud to announce a new member to our
cosmetic team, Dr Andrew Parashchak (our team) who has brought his expertise to allow us to now provide

Teeth Whitening Smile

What’s It All About?

By choosing to have your teeth whitened by a dentist, you are guaranteeing that your health will be safeguarded throughout. If you are considering having a teeth whitening procedure we want to make sure you have made an informed and safe decision about your treatment.

As of October 2012, the law changed so that the selling of, or providing of tooth whitening treatment using any chemical based teeth whitening product with more than 0.1% hydrogen peroxide by an untrained or non-dental professional is illegal.

The reason is simple, these chemicals can be dangerous. Those used in teeth whitening procedures are no exception. Home kits and treatments provided by non-professionals can differ from those available through us at Queens Park Clinic and may be harmful to your health. Only a trained dental professional can provide a safe treatment tailored to you.

When treated by a dental professional, teeth whitening can be a great way to put the shine back in your smile, build your self-confidence and get the look you always wanted!!

How Does It Work?

Teeth are made up of 3 layers: the inner nerve, the dentine (the main bulk of the tooth which gives it its natural colour), and the outer shell of enamel.

Teeth can become stained in two ways, either on the outside of the tooth or from the inside. Enamel is built up like a scaffolding network and over time, stains from the food we eat accumulate, and get trapped in this network, so causing the tooth to look darker. The tooth can be stained from the inside too, for example following trauma to a tooth.

Professional tooth whitening can remove these deep and surface stains by breaking them up so that they simply dissolve away, making your teeth look whiter. They also lighten the natural colour of the dentine at the same time. A specially and carefully formulated gel containing Carbamide Peroxide is used to achieve this.

Will It Damage My Teeth?

NO!!

Damage to teeth is caused by things that are acidic (e.g. dental decay or acid erosion). We use a whitening solution that is slightly alkaline (the opposite of acid) and as such, causes no damage to teeth.

What Actually Happens?

  1. You will first be examined by our Dentist and advised on the best treatment regime for you. Photographs will be taken so we can track your progress.

  2. A set of impressions of your teeth will be taken and sent to the lab to make a discreet, unique set of trays, similar to a gum shield but much smaller.

  3. The trays will then be fitted a few days later once they have been made, and you will be shown how to apply and use the whitening gel. You will also be given specially formulated whitening toothpaste, developed in conjunction with the gels we use.

  4. You then begin your whitening regime.

  5. 2-3 weeks later you will have a review appointment where we will take post treatment photographs and show you your progress!

Will It Hurt?

Tooth Whitening treatment can deliver brilliant, long-lasting results. Your whitening treatment is tailored to suit you. Your progress is monitored during and after the procedure, and we ensure that any side effects are minimised and the overall result is as brilliant as you had hoped.

It is likely you will get some sensitivity for the first few days, usually from your front teeth, however this tends to go away after the first 2 or 3 applications.

If you experience any longer lasting sensitivity we can use a specialised de-sensitising gel to help things along.

How Long Does It Last?

On average, results are maintained for approximately 18-24 months before you may notice your teeth becoming slightly darker. Diets high in coffee, tea, red wine and smokers (to name a few) will last less time than those who avoid them.

Fear not……..

The beauty of this treatment is that if you feel your teeth have become darker, it can be reversed by a short, ‘top up‘ course to achieve your desired shade once again.
